Pete and Roger

about

Pete and Roger is the ultimate tribute song to The Margaret Hooligans favorite band, The Who. They salute the iconic Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey by retelling the tale of their start and their tumultuous but long-standing friendship in their drum and riff driving rock opus.

Carefully selecting the parts of what made The Who songs great with explosive drumming, rhythmic ukulele riffs, melodic leads, and layered vocal harmonies, Meg and Strontium have carved out a song that is not only a nod to their musical heroes, but is delivered in only the quirky way they can. The song is grand in its sound and production, with Meg’s soaring lead vocals that are reminiscent of the arena drenched rock hits “Baba O’Reilly” and “Who Are You?” in the song’s climax. Even Meg’s electric ukulele riffs are a nod to Townshend’s greatness, in that they echo his genius ability to weave a melodic lead that echoes what is happening in the rest of the song without completely taking over.

Pete and Roger is the fifth single from their upcoming album, Turntable Tribulations, due out in October.

Pete and Roger will be available on all streaming platforms, the band’s website and Bandcamp on Friday, August 12, 2022. The band is planning to release a new single from the album every month from April through September, with the full album release in October. A limited release of CDs will also be available in October.

lyrics

They met in school
Nobody's fool
They made a bet
To smash the city
Crush the country
Plans were set
Had their doubts
No A&R scouts
For Elvis they were not
One small with jutting jaw
The other a big nose full of snot

But they made hay
As the Detours found their way
But the tour became a bore
They wanted more

Pete Pete Pete Pete
Rog Rog Rog Rog

Mods and rockers
Scooters and choppers
Pick a side
Aces faces
Moon's manic thunder
Future open wide
Pictures of Lily
Not so silly
Write a quick one while he's away
Woodstock is stoked
Won't go broke
Rock opera wizards they ruled the day

But paradise won't last
You can't relive the past
When you reach your dreams
There's a price to pay
To pay
To pay

Pete and Roger

Pete and Roger
Pete and Roger
Stay always
Ohhhh

The fragile peace is blown
Insults hurled
Punches thrown
Trust is shot
Though it's not
The end of their song

Windmill armband
Lasso microphone
Shattered speaker cone
Knees would quake
Baba wasteland
Join together
Slip kid nation
Ears need a break
Keith and John
Too long gone
Those old bones
They'd never make

Now only two
Stand tall
No tea or sympathy
Needed at all
Never to lose
Their might
Cause the kids were alright
Alright
Alright
